Louis XIV was suffering from anal fistulas. In 1686, the king Louis XIV was operated on by Charles François Félix, the court surgeon, without any form of anesthetic at seven in the morning on November 18. The operation took place in the king's bedchamber at Versailles. The only onlookers were Madame de maintenon, a Minister of War named Louvois, the priest La Chaise, the doctors Daquin, Fagon and Besnières and four apothecaries who were to hold the patient.
Charles François Félix, the court surgeon operated again on December 6,8 and 10. It was on January 11 that the king first promenaded in the Orangerie at Versailles.

He was inspired by the Saint Silvester Road Race in São Paulo and decided to set up his own local race in his hometown with the same format – hosting the race on New Year's Eve. Initially a men's event only on a course of around 9 kilometres , the race attracted high level competition from the beginning, with Poland's Bronisław Malinowski winning the 1974 race the same year as his gold medal win at the 1974 European Athletics Championships. Due to the race's growing popularity, the competition was divided into two segments: an elite-level race and a public race.

Author: Wikipedia
More information

The Latona Fountain in the Gardens of Versailles lies in the Latona Basin between the Chateau de Versailles and the Grand Canal. On the top tier, there is a statue of the goddess Latona. The fountain operates three times a week during the high season.
The theme of the Latona Fountain is taken from the myth of Latona , as vividly told in Book VI of the Metamorphoses of Ovid. Latona bore the gods Apollo and Diana by Zeus, which incurred the hatred of Zeus' consort Juno. She forbade any mortals to give hospitality to Latona and her children, who were forced to wander the earth fleeing Juno's persecution, until at last they came to Lycia. A thirsty Latona attempted to drink from a local pond, but the inhabitants, obeying Juno's command, waded into the water and kicked up the mud from the bottom of the pond, so that Latona and her children could not drink. Enraged at their treatment of her, Latona cursed the Lycians to live in their pond forever, and they were transformed into frogs as punishment.

Author: Wikipedia
More information
